The key to life: Layers. We can make any outfit, couch or flat hairstyle that much better with the careful addition of an extra layer of love. Be it a particular fur lined parka on sale at ASOS, an embroidered throw or face framing cut, repurposing is essential to making the things we hold dearest to our temporal hearts, endure.
Take this 70s actually–non-fraudulent–vintage dress I wore once to a Quincinera. I heart this dress. More than you even know. All by it's lonesome, 2nd hour Biology just wouldn't do this dress justice. nor would it be deserving of storage in a dusty, 19th century locker during 4th hour Aerobics. Enter the craft of repurposing.
Emphasis on the craft.
Phase One was in fact putting on the dress– it's all about those one percent goals guys. Phase Two, here we come!
Meanwhile at Phase Two, a slouchy grey sweatshirt. And bonus points for wearing it backwards! A balancing agent is a must between the sheer nature (a purposeful pun) of the dress and the tide of floral dysfunction. Dresses are fancy, too fancy for even Iggy Azalea herself to fathom. By the addition of another LAYER, you dumb it down to something more comfortable, more unconventional, more cool.
Cool being the ultimate goal in this venture.
Phase Three includes shoes, a denim jacket and additional attitude. A majority of which is supplied by said jacket and the affirmation that you have successfully completed the first lesson in reinventing yourself, and your closet.
Congratulations! You deserve a plaque, or at the very least a Visa giftcard to go shopping because there's only so much repurposing one can do for their closet.
Vintage floral dress, Roots sweatshirt, Gap denim jacket and Superga sneakers.
As they say: old habits die hard.
