Prom Edition

Depending on where you live, prom is either on the horizon, receding from it or isn't too familiar with this Americanized cultural pastime culminating to the final days as a secondary schooler. It's fun, it's really sad and has potential to be costly.

Being amidst the full swing of prom season and having so casully been friends with upper-upperclassmen attending this coming of age event, the question of "what to wear to prom" has gained a top spot among modern day conversation starters only second to "Crazy weather we're having, eh?" and " I like your braces?" ( no joke, this actually happened to me today).

Unfortunately, I'm not going to prom so such outfitting won't yet be on my radar for another 363 days, but since it's soo much closer than the facts may suggest and I literally can't stand the thought of  procrastination on this firtuous occasion, I started planning ahead.

I present  Is Everyone Pronouncing My Name Wrong? (And Other Misspellings): Prom Edition– the title may be subject to copyright infringement law, so we're still working the details out:

KZ:
Pitaya crochet mesh dress, Topshop coat, Aldo heels, ASOS earrings
Nastygal bag & Pixie Market sunglasses

For a period of about, 4 months during my first encounter with Facebook, I decided I was going to be hyper aware of my Internet safety and maintaining privacy on the Internet. Obviously, changing my screen name from the bland un-trendy Karlyn to KZ didn't quite do the trick. After I realized that this would undoubtedly accomplish nothing as I still currently receive friend requests from the more questionable web stalkers, the name still stuck. KZ is now a more heightened and zealous version of my already unconventional dress reserved for my imagination slash life as a fashion editor at Elle and NYU alum. In KZ's eyes, prom's just another day on Bowery Street in midst of NYFW ss 2014.

Karolyn:

J. Crew jacket, Topshop heels, 202 Factory clutch,
 Pixie Market choker and rings,

This is me making a pathetic attempt at sophistication. Karolyn is a bit more conservative, yet no less stylish and trendsetting.  Black is often too readily approached as the standard for formal outfitting, but Karolyn amps it up with snakeskin heels–faux, of course–a pearl choker, and a transparent clutch because she's too classy to have secrets. This just goes to show that you can look sexy and put together without bearing it all, did I mention Karolyn is the spokeswoman for the Step Up Women's Network? Well, she is.

Karly:

AX jumpsuit, Boohoo Carmen jacket, Nasty gal clutch and ''Good, Bad, Rad" bobby pins,
ASOS heels, bracelet and earrings

If I had a penny for every time someone decidedly siphoned the "n" off the end of my first name I would... be moderately wealthy. When I think Karly, I think girly, sophisticated, fancy, a tad bit ditzy but with a side of bad@$$ b!**h in her–hence the white silk jumpsuit. All I can think is pink, namely because today is Wednesday and you know how that story goes, and what better to offset pastel hues than dainty rose gold accessories and a literal clutch made of roses? Nothing.

Granted I'm aware that prom is typically a more formal event where one might hope to evince the character of a telltale princess, yet I find that prom is more about being comfortable and feeling pretty in the skin–or skintight garment– you're in.

But no lie, silk jumpsuits are hella comfy.
